What is REDD+?
The REDD+ framework seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. It also aims to conserve forests and increase their carbon stocks. REDD+ is an important component of the Paris Agreement.
‘REDD’ stands for ‘Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries. The ‘+’ stands for additional forest-related activities that protect the climate, namely sustainable management of forests and the conservation and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. Under the framework with these REDD+ activities, developing countries like Cambodia can receive results-based payments for emission reductions when they reduce deforestation. This serves as a major incentive for its efforts.

Cambodia REDD+
is a key component approach to conservation, sustainable management and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. The Cambodian government initiated the piloting of REDD+ projects in 2008 and developed its first REDD+ roadmap in 2010, recognising it as a vital strategy to address deforestation and degradation.
Cambodia is committed to sustainable development through key initiatives: the Pentagonal Strategy, Sustainable Development Goals, Long-Term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality, and National REDD+ Strategy. The Ministry of Environment launched the Circular Strategy on Environment (2023-2028) to promote a clean, green, and sustainable environment, aiming for carbon neutrality and over 60% forest cover by 2050. Various partners, including the government, civil society, private sector, and universities, are collaborating on conservation programs, research, and sustainable management of forest resources across multiple provinces.

Sre Pok Wildlife Sanctuary
is a 372,971 ha large wildlife sanctuary in Mondulkiri Province, eastern Cambodia. There are an estimated 92,213 villagers living in 27 villages across 6 communes and 2 districts. All villages can be found on the borders of the protected area. There are also nine community protected areas in Sre Pok with 2,500 families.
The Sre Pok REDD+ Project is one of the currently underway initiatives in Mondulkiri Province, Cambodia, that focuses on biodiversity conservation and carbon sequestration while also helping people in the indigenous community. The project’s purpose is to minimize deforestation while balancing environmental protection and indigenous community development. E-telenity works with multiple stakeholders, governments, and communities to guarantee that the project meets the voluntary REDD+ market requirement.
